A publisher on the systemic periphery of the system: translations of works in the field of the humanities in the catalogue of the “słowo/obraz terytoria” publishing house

Summary/Abstract: The topic raised in this article is the starting point for a statistical analysis of foreign language texts in the field of the humanities published by the Polish publishing house “słowo/obraz terytoria” from its establishment in 1995 until September 2019. The article also analyses the factors that make up this aspect of the publishing house’s achievements and specifies their role in the phenomenal development of the institution, which began as a small peripheral entity but is now recognized as an elite humanities publisher in Poland. This article considers the following factors determining the nature of the humanistic thought transfer through the publications of “słowo/obraz terytoria”:— the subject matter of translated works,— languages and authors of original works,— the number of translated works,— authors of translations.
