Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the concept of health literacy, referring to scientific research and indicating the elements of the health competencies crisis in European countries. It emphasizes the consequences of the insufficient/problematic level of health competencies for public health. Moreover, it underlines the importance of the process of socialization and health education in shaping health literacy.
