Summary/Abstract: Leo Tolstoy is a didactic writer who frequently highlights in his works the deviation from the moral norm and the consequences that come with it. Between the years 1881-1886 he writes a couple of short stories that bring to the reader's attention moral values that Tolstoy believes to be embedded in the society of the 19th century. In these stories, a cause-and-effect relationship is often observed (for every action there is a reaction, a moral consequence). Moreover, each story brings forth the idea of mercy and grace given to people who are unworthy of them. The present work aims to highlight the features of tolstoyism in the popular stories of the writer.
