Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the government and military sway the Kingdom of Yugoslavia maintained over the establishment, growth, and operation of the Yugoslav aircraft industry, particularly built by private capital. The “Zmaj“ aircraft factory (founded in 1927), one of the three biggest private aircraft companies at the time, serves as an illustration for the analysis of governmental impact. In all aspects of factory operations, from inspections and controls during the establishment of the factory to the institution of the supervising authority, strict regulations concerning the workers and visible financial dependency on the state, the government and military authorities had a significant effect.
