Summary/Abstract: The report examines the state of Bulgarian library science today based on existing basic theoretical research. The special empirical studies in the library sector, including those of general library and national character, have not been analyzed. In order to better und erstand the current situation in Bulgarian library science, a brief historical overview of its developmentup to the 90s of the twentieth century ismade. It is concluded that in the field of theoretical library research the in fluence of Russian library science prevails today.
