Summary/Abstract: An interesting glance towards the place and role of lie and truth for the construction of the present building of the National library “St. St. Kiril and Metodius” casts in his report the literary critic Yuliy Yordanov – member of the union of the Bulgarian writers. On the basis of thorough research of the problem, the attitude of the public, the actions and inactions of the state institutions towards it and especially the testimony of the informer prof. Todor Borov, who was director of the library in the period 1944–1949, and the construction of the building turned to his own cause, and his own observations on the basis of documents, Yordanov enlightens on key moments of the vicissitude fortune of the library and the accompanying swindles. What attracts is the lively publicistic-essayistic style in which the report is written. This helps it to respond better to the national scientific conference “120 years Todor Borov – a life devoted to knowledge” where topics like challenges and problems of the theory and practice of the Bulgarian bibliography and library science will be discussed.
