Summary/Abstract: Shared cataloguing is widely used practice in libraries. This paper examines the emergence of library and information networks whose main task is to support the sharing of bibliographic and authority data between libraries. The main technological tools used in shared cataloguing are discussed. The largest library and information network OCLC is presented, as well as ABES, NUKAT, Libnet, and COBISS.Net. The attempt to develop a Bulgarian library and information network, based on the COBISS software is mentioned.
