Summary/Abstract: The article shines a light over the charm of the Bucharest slum during wartime, as it was described by Teodor Mazilu in his novel Bariera and in the script of the eponymous movie. The topos, the difficulties of love, the haunting loneliness and the motley peripheral world are presented in comparison to other texts in the Romanian literature. The same is valid for the values that survive in any environment, the people who create indestructible connections and who through their mindset and actions, become role models for others, achieving real mentality changes. The biographical underlay is consistent, therefore the atmosphere created by the author is gentle, familiar.
