Summary/Abstract: Opportunities for the circular economy to reduce the EU's greenhouse gas emissions are associated with three economic sectors with the highest carbon consumption. To avoid dangerous climate change, the signatories to the Paris Agreement agreed on the global need for emissions to peak as soon as possible and to reduce them rapidly thereafter. Decarbonization to reduce GHG emissions is at the heart of climate change mitigation and can also help the EU become a more resource-efficient economy. Given the economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, the European Green Pact proposes integrating the circular economy into future policies such as the EU Climate Law and Industrial Strategy and ensuring the availability of funding for circular economic projects from sources such as the EU's Next Generation budget.
