Summary/Abstract: Life in the modern world implies being surrounded by media on a daily basis. Their (omni)presence in the family environment is often questioned in public and professional discourse. Since the early age, children are exposed to a different media and the media have big impact on growth, development, raise and education. Media can impact both positive and negative on children. Children need to have media competencies therefore the big role in media education have parents. The paper presents the results of the research aimed to determine how much preschool children are exposed to media impact during their free time, which media are they most exposed to, and which content they consume. The research was conducted in the kindergarten Župa Dubrovačka by the survey procedure, and the sample consisted of parents (N=81).The paper starts from the assumption that the mass media occupy significant place in the preschool children's free time. The research showed how parents relate to the mass media, how much they find it useful or harmful to their children, and whether they have restrictions towards the use of mass media. The paper emphasizes the need to develop media literacy in children from their first encounters with the media.
