Summary/Abstract: Bukovina is among the few historical areas in Romania which still preserves a traditional and authentic ambiance in its settlements, mainly in its rural ones. This is mostly due to the patrimony of heritage buildings which includes traditional houses built in the Romanian, German, Polish, Jewish, Ukrainian, Armenian, Huțul styles and others. Beyond the obvious architectural richness, what or who stands behind the beautifully sculpted front doors? What memories or what stories do the people who live in these old houses tell? After having conducted field research in 2018, 2019 and 2020, a series of interviews were made with the owners and/or inhabitants of these traditional houses. For this paper, a number of extracts were selected in order to create a relevant image of the „human” factor in the ensemble of the traditional patrimony of Bukovina.
