Summary/Abstract: When a Western researcher or fiction writer presents the contemporary history of Vietnam, they focus mainly on describing the American sacrifices made during the Vietnamese War and how they saved the South Vietnamese from the hands of the evil Communist Vietnamese, but neglect to discuss the important contributions made by the new religious movement Cao Dai Tien-Ong during the Vietnamese War, as well as recently, in bringing the South and North Vietnamese closer. Among the Western authors that wrote about Vietnam’s recent history, Graham Greene is an exception, as his novel, The Quiet American, presents in detail the importance of the Cao Dai Tien-Ong movement in both the day-to-day life of South Vietnamese citizens and the fight against the Communist Vietnamese.
