Summary/Abstract: We know that best-seller lists and media coverage of books are not necessarily reflections of true quality, but even here there can be oscillations. From about 1999 to 2001, our literary market was extremely unpredictable; it was not unknown for complete outsiders to make the best-seller lists against all odds. It was virtually impossible to say who was an “unknown” and who was a “name”. A literary generation – change was in the air and – as can be seen only now – a restructuring of the publishing world was taking place.
