Summary/Abstract: If the development of and changes in this or that national literature are tracked over a longer period of time, through, let us say, two to three decades, on several occasions it must be possible to observe what we might call the canonisation of a writer and his oeuvre. This event does not have, of course, the form of an integrated social act that – like the canonisation of the Christian martyrs, miracle workers or devotees – can be accomplished in a day’s work and is marked by some religious ritual. Still, it does have several manifest signs and symptoms.
