Summary/Abstract: Determining the activity that marks the beginning of the commission of a criminal offense is one of the most important and controversial issues of criminal law. The question is important because it represents the distinction between the punishable and the generally unpunished stage of committing a criminal offense. It is also controversial because there are no uniform criteria in determining the demarcation line. In the Eurocontinental criminal law system, theories offer the determination of the beginning of the commission of a criminal offense. In contrast, Anglo-Saxon criminal law is special because it sees demarcation in tests, although doctrinal understandings can also be found here. In this article, the author analyzes the perceptions / tests related to criminal attempt in Anglo-Saxon criminal law.
