The Dilemma Methodological Individualism — Methodological Holism

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the methodological dilemma individualism in social philosophy and methodology of social sciences, A distinction is done between radical and moderate versions of individualism and holism. Then consecutively are investigated such forms as ontological, epistemological, ethical and political individualism and holism. Methodological individualism is criticized first of all for its biological and psychological reductionism and for the neglect of the role of cultural and social factors for the main characteristics of the individual. The main fault of holism is that it exaggerates the role the whole, the system, the general at the expense of the individuals and their free activity.
