How to talk about directness? The importance of cultural variation

Summary/Abstract: In this contribution we review Directness and Indirectness Across Cultures by Karen Grainger and Sara Mills. We believe that this publication will help resolve many theoretical questions and doubts regarding intercultural communication, which is a sensitive matter within the field of extramural Dutch studies. What most NT2 or NVT teachers will probably have to deal with sooner or later is a discussion about Dutch directness. It seems that it has become a notorious stereotype which the students often bring to class.
