Vargas Llosa seamlessly blends historical fact and fiction, unifying the whole as a skilled observer of society. This is due to the testimonials from his visits to the island of Santo Domingo. Thus, the fictional names that are part of the narrative fiction overlap imperceptibly with real and historical persons.
