Summary/Abstract: During the reign of Vasile Lupu and metropolitan Varlaam of Moldavia, it had been printed the first book in Romanian from Moldavia – Carte românească de învăţătură or Cazania (1643) – an authentic monument of Romanian culture. “Cazania” of metropolitan Varlaam is a document of the unity and continuity of the Romanian nation. It had spread into all Romanian provinces. The Transylvanian version of this book was printed in Alba Iulia in 1699 by the typographist Mihail Iştvanovici under the name of Chiriacodromion. This version contained six more homilies than the Cazania of Varlaam and had a large circulation all over Transylvania.
