Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the autobiographical interpretation that many critics have developed of Oculto sendero (Hidden Path), an unpublished novel by Elena Fortún (1886-1956) that was not made available to the public until 2016. This paper argues that such kind of reading—although it can be very attractive to access the lesbian universe in Spain before the Civil War, of which we barely have first-person memories—can weigh down our understanding of the work and its fictional values.
