Summary/Abstract: Even since the birth, the church was oppressed during its development and spreading process. This oppression was led at first by the Jewish religious leaders and then by political and military leaders. In the XX century, in Romania, the martyrdom of the intellectual and Christian elites has commenced. The totalitarian regime that has established in Romania after the end of the Second World War had immediately restricted the religious freedom. The church had to pass some difficult years as the Christian ideology which stated the existence of God contradicts the atheist and communist propaganda. Communists saw in church a tool of manipulation both internally and externally. This way, this institution had to be compromised in the eyes of the Christians and as socialism was built, the church was about to collapse and disappear. In this study, we will analyze the oppression of the Romanian church during the communist regime. We will analyze the Orthodox, the Greek-Catholic and the neo-protestant churches.
