Summary/Abstract: Founded by the "Romanian School" society but through the combined effort of Suceava contributors, intellectuals and ordinary people alike, in the desire to leave a necessary and representative institution for the city of Suceava, the Central Library opens its doors on the evening of December 12, 1923, in the presence of Professor Dr. Eusebie Popovici (1863-1938), the founder of law, and a select audience. Among those invited were teachers of the "Stefan cel Mare" High School, the mayor, the prefect, intellectuals from other localities. Among them were those who would lead the institution until 1950, a difficult historical period, when the Central Library became the Regional Library in the new regime. In a volunteering that will cover a quarter of a century, those who were at the helm of the institution managed to keep the original collections, to enrich them and to shelter some of the old publications, undesirable for the new rule.
