Summary/Abstract: In” The Song of Destinies”, a novel by G. M. Zamfirescu, the plot, though romantically complicated, is deficient in terms of construction. The plot justifies from a causal perspective the emotional trauma of the characters. The two love stories are constructed using the counterpoint technique. The former justifies the latter. The emotional death of the father justifies the emotional death of the son and even causes it. The first love story is leading up as a pretext for the second. The moral thesis so dear to the author is that man is crushed by an opposing destiny. The role of Destiny in building intrigue is controversial. The tragic conditioning is given by the wrong choice of road. Fane resignedly indulges in existential tragedy and unlikely emotional death. A rigorous construction of the plot is necessary to activate the memory and sharp comprehension of the reader. However, in G. M. Zamfirescu’s work, the epic development may, at times, seem chaotic. Some narrative sequences miss their purpose. The inserted episodes, although, from an epic perspective, related to the main narrative thread, from the perspective of the intrigue are, most of the times, a useless addition. G. M. Zamfirescu knows how to create the mystery, he can keep the reader in suspense. Though he is not always consistent in this regard, sometimes it works out for him. The mystery surrounding the death of the nameless infant is shaped and outlined by interpretive reluctance. The narrator also creates mystery through the technique of gradual gathering of details.
