Summary/Abstract: The journalistic work of Augustin Buzura is a natural addition to his literary one, mainly because his literary works were redacted during the author’s active meditation of two novels. In his publications, Augustin Buzura is straightforward, impressing the readers through the depth of the meaning he gives to the truth. He sees the concept of an author as a fighter and in journalism a job that implies consciousness, and that is because the author himself is a self-proclaimed truth-seeker, a pillar of sincerity, perseverance and stability of feelings. Making himself known in the literary circles in Cluj so far as his pre-graduate years, Augustin Buzura enrolled himself in two directions, after graduating a medical university – as a writer, with his 1963 debut volume” Capul bunei speranțe”, and as a journalist, the head secretary of the Tribuna magazine. His debut novel” Pământ” was published on February 25th 1960, in Tribuna magazine, at the recommendation of Mircea Zaciu, in the literary circle where it was first read. The author kept publishing his works in the Tribuna magazine – prose, coverage, essays, articles, and as his fame grew, he extended his publishing to other magazines throughout the country. In 1976 he introduced a new column in the Tribuna magazine, called” Bloc-Notes”, in which he approached weekly-based thoughts about literature, society, life and death. After the 1989 Revolution, Augustin Buzura involved himself in the political aspects of the country and founded the Romanian Cultural Foundation, which he re-branded in 2003 into the Romanian Cultural Institute. During this period, the author published countless articles in the Cultura magazine, which was founded in 2004 and which he ran as a director until he passed away. In the magazine, he affirmed himself as an author with a strong and opinionated voice, with a true civic and patriotic consciousness. His works were published in two volumes:” Canonul periferiei”, which contained works published in between December 8th 2005 and December 18th 2008, and” Nici vii, nici morți”, from January 8th 2009 and March 8th 2012. Augustin Buzura’s analysis of the Romanian society isn’t two-dimensional, instead it emphasizes the gravity of an author’s imprint on the society – through writing. His portrait contains multitudes: the instinct of a psychoanalyst physician, the firm belief in the values of intellectuality and of the entire human race. Ever since the beginning, the author has taken the role of being a voice for truth and fundamental values, publishing an authentic view of his times. His only aim was to tell the truth. Augustin Buzura’s works, even though published in between the pages of a literary magazine, are the product of a vocational journalist, which doesn’t feel the need to impress stylistically. Being well-aware of the magnitude of the cultural importance his works represented to the entire society, Augustin Buzura never abandoned expressing himself through writing, even in the utmost difficult times, when the political context was against him. He continued to write his novels and publications, because he firmly believed that writing was the mean through which the nation was going to benefit from a better outcome. His belief was that the future of the country would be better if young people were to learn from society’s past mistakes. This is why his publicistic works are profoundly educational, alongside his prose, which complete each other harmoniously. These two concepts are based on the author’s faith that without moral integrity, sincerity, fairness, culture is but a transparent gift to humanity.
