DOMINIQUE GOBLET AND AMRUTA PATIL – GIVING SHAPE TO THE INTIMATE SUBJECT WITHIN THE MEDIUM OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL

Summary/Abstract: The graphic novels’ field has come a long way and it continues to grow new niches, to develop in an insatiable manner, proving that the traditional, text-only, way of narrating has grown insufficient for a new generation with different values, when it comes to interacting with the book medium and with its content. The most successful and most recent – meaning the last three decades – subject the field has adopted is the (auto)biographical, human experience-oriented one. This piece of writing focuses on this very matter, more precisely on presenting a few works of two important names of the (auto)biographical graphic novels’ scene: Dominique Goblet and Amruta Patil. Given their popularity in the underground comics/graphic novels’ community, both of them have managed to attract the attention of their public with a range of personal moments and episodes that they have stored in their graphic novels that, in this context, may be considered their intimate diaries. Aside from showcasing the general narrative line in « Les Hommes-Loups », « Faire Semblant C’est Mentir » (Dominique Goblet) and « Kari » (Amruta Patil), we will also highlight the intimate dimension in all of them.
