Summary/Abstract: The Great Synagogue in Warsaw was one of the most important places not only because of its unique architecture, but above all the spiritual and intellectual influence that it exerted on the Jewish community in Warsaw and Polish Jewry in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The synagogue was associated with several prominent scholars, preachers and rabbis who made an outstanding contribution to the development of knowledge about Jews and Judaism. These figures were primarily preachers such as rabbis Markus Jastrow, Isaak Cylkow, Samuel Abraham Poznanski and Moses Schorr. These contributed greatly to the promotion of the ideals of Wissenschaft des Judentums among Polish Jews and the development of Wissenschaft des Judentums as an intellectual movement in general. This article is an attempt to assess their significance and achievements in the light of the history of Wissenschaft des Judentums movement and the history of Jewish studies in Poland.
