Summary/Abstract: The five tales of Nizami describe the spiritual journey that should lead to wisdom the main heroes and closer them to the divine. Majnun and Layla’s tale depicts a love story between two young Bedouin; upset, the young man loses his mind and takes refuge in madness in the desert. The desert then becomes the place of salvation, a privileged landscape just like a paradise where wild beasts lived peacefully. The desert separates Majnun from the civilized world but also changes the nature of the young man: he will lose his human features, becoming a kind of intermediary creature without material needs.
