Summary/Abstract: Himzo Polovina, a well-known interpreter of Bosnian traditional folk songs, and a respected doctor neuropsychiatrist, nurtured a distinctive singing repertoire that distinguished him from other significant folk music interpreters of his time. Polovina’s repertoire consists mainly of Bosnian traditional folk songs, among which the songs from his native Mostar and Herzegovina with which he became famous have a special place. To a lesser extent, the repertoire also includes newly composed folk songs. Along with a presentation of the most essential songs from his repertoire, the paper considers the circumstances that influenced the shaping of the repertoire, as well as the criteria Polovina followed when choosing songs, which supports the claim that the repertoire itself played a key role in positioning Himza Polovina as one of the most important interpreters of Bosnia and Herzegovinian folk music in the 20th century.
