Summary/Abstract: The history of Pomerania, like that of many other regions of Poland, is most often presented in the scientific literature in a political context. In the 1990s, Gerard Labuda proposed an alternative approach – the next great synthesis of the history of Pomerania was to focus on one of the ethnic groups living there. Józef Borzyszkowski’s book on the history of the Kashubians in 19th-century Pomerania is a worthy continuation of this idea. The analysis of this publication in the context of the already long-standing methodological discussions concerning the history of Pomerania and, more broadly, regional studies allows one to see new interesting problems and research perspectives.
