Summary/Abstract: The Maltese-origin pirate nicknamed Burunsuz kept the Ottoman Empire busy in the first two decades of the 18th century. Today, there is only one study that gives information about Burunsuz based on Ottoman archive documents and it consists of information that does not exceed a few lines. The fact that no research has been carried out about this pirate based on Ottoman documents, which will enable us to look at his activities from a wider perspective, has also been a determining factor in the preparation of this study. Besides, in the chronicle named Târîh-i Râşid, which shows the feature of being the only source giving information about this pirate, it is stated that Burunsuz attacked only Muslim-Turkish trade ships. However, this study is based on a provision belonging to a non-Muslim in the registry records of the period when he targeted merchant ships without any religious or racial distinction. In this article, it is aimed to give general information about the aforementioned pirate and the harsh measures taken by the state against his activities, based on the Ottoman archival documents giving information about Burunsuz and the chronicle of the period.
