Summary/Abstract: The Ottoman Empire underwent some difficulties about the developments with comparison to its contemporaneous neighbors. These difficulties originated from lack of following some economic, social and technological developments such as Age of Discovery, Industrial Revolution, Reform and Renaissance periods, which lasted from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Moreover, the economic and social balance of the country had been adversely affected by the large-scale concessions given to the European powers during some periodical events. In addition, as a result of ongoing and long wars in the 18th century, the expenses of empire increased and the tax obligation of the people reached at the same rate of expenditure. Riots, banditry and repressive activities that threatened the security and order in the country also became prevalent due to the economic turmoil and war that took place in this period. Cyprus, which was part of the Ottoman Empire, was heavily affected by the economic and social problems. Some problems such as inheritance, debt-giving, property and property extortion, bullying, false declaration, the taxation and land property became controversial issues in the Cyprus between the years 1788-1808, and this situation was reflected in the supreme court of Ottoman Empire through complaints. In our study, the social and economic situation in Cyprus during the relevant period and the problems that occurred related to same issue, the reflection of these problems on the supreme court of Ottoman Empire through complaints will be discussed as well as the effects of the problems on the socio-economic structure, the subjects on which the complaints were concentrated and their statistics, based on the Atik Complaint Registers (10 Registers). Besides, the Atik Complaint Registers, the Cyprus Court Records, the document classifications in the Ottoman Archives and the related research works will also be used.
