Summary/Abstract: The article presents an online survey conducted among 524 headmasters via the online questionnaire method. The test analysis used this method to assess Thomas and Kilmann’s behaviour styles. The conflictological model of the two scholars evaluates the behaviour of the individual in conflict life situations where incompatible points of view of two or more people are manifested. The basic dimensions of behaviour are derived through five methods of dealing with conflict: competitive, collaborative, compromise, avoidant, and adaptable. The aim of the study was to establish what management styles headmasters used in the schools entrusted to them. The methods included a survey, descriptive statistics, a quantitative and qualitative method. On the basis of the conducted survey, it was concluded that the behaviour of each individual in a situation could be described by two dimensions: assertiveness and complacency or cooperativeness. There are no universal and correct answers that determine the choice of behaviour in conflict situations. It is the competency approach that helps develop various competencies facilitating the individual’s professional development.
