Regions in European cohesion policy during the period 2014-2020

Summary/Abstract: European Commission proposals for the programming period 2014-2020 introduce a number of changes to the current model of policy implementation. The new policy is supposed to be more oriented towards achieving results, subjected to a greater extent to the use of conditionality mechanisms and simplification in the implementation of projects financed by EU funds. European Commission’s proposals also strengthen the role of regions in the effective implementation of cohesion policy. Regions’ active role will emerge in the development of partnership agreements, defining the content and implementation of operational programs, participation in the establishment of a joint action plan, or participation in management and implementation of Integrated Territorial Investments.
