Summary/Abstract: A specific characteristic of the ancient Russian iconography of Last judgment from the 15th-18th c. turned out to be the motive with the evil nations on the left side of the composition: characteristic for the Byzantine tradition was the presentation only of judeans and pagans. The Russian icons depicted along with the judeans also Lithuanians, Tatars, Poles, Germans and other „languages” and even Russian ones. This ethnic specification was connected not only with the historical situation in mediaeval Russia – during the 13th c. it was divided between the Tatars and Lithuania but also with the special attitude towards the ethnic (folklore) tradition as „pagan”, deserving condemnation at Last judgment.
