Summary/Abstract: The article approaches pragmatic issues of the complex predicate with modal and aspectual operator and verbal semantic support within the Romanian and Spanish televisual political discourse, more precisely the impersonalization of utterances as a strategy specific to negative politeness. It is emphasized that, through this mechanism of negative politeness, the locutor decreases the benefit and increases the cost for himself (the generosity maxim of the politeness principle) ensuring verbal cooperation during the conversation.
