HAYDER ALIYEV'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENERGY SECTOR (GAS SECTOR) OF AZERBAIJAN

Summary/Abstract: During his leadership years, Heydar Aliyev took very big steps in Azerbaijan's energy sector. One of them, and perhaps the biggest, was the steps taken towards energy security. Since the commissioning of the "Shah Deniz" gas field, our country has turned from a gas importing country into a gas exporting country. At the same time, it expanded our trade relations with European countries. In short, the "Shah Deniz" gas field, which currently plays a major role in Azerbaijan's gas exports, formed the basis of our energy security for that period. Of course, Heydar Aliyev, a forward-thinking leader, could not be satisfied with just this step in Azerbaijan's energy sector. In the direction of developing the energy sector, on September 20, 1994, an agreement called the "Contract of the Century" was signed with the participation of 13 oil companies from 8 major oil-producing countries. With this agreement, Azerbaijan became one of the countries that could speak up in the energy sector. The successes achieved in the oil and gas sector also did not have an ineffective impact on the non-oil sector. The reforms carried out by the great leader in both the oil and non-oil sectors have shown their positive results, and Azerbaijan has become a reliable partner among world countries, and as a result, investments in the country have increased. The increase in capital has given impetus to the rapid development of the country and its economy.
