Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to calculate the import dependency ratios of both the general manufacturing industry and the manufacturing industry sub-sectors at the NACE Rev.2 and selected NACE Rev.2-3 digit (Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community) levels in the 2006-2019 period in Türkiye, and to analyze the factors affecting the import dependency ratio at the NACE Rev.2 level with Arellano-Bond Generalized Moments Method (GMM). Calculations show that the import dependency ratio in Türkiye was 24% on average in the 2006-2019 period, and the highest import dependency ratio was in the motor vehicles sector in the related period. According to the Arellano-Bond GMM results, no significant relationship was found between the average wages and exchange rate variables and the import dependency ratio, but a significant and positive relationship was found between the other independent variables and the import dependency ratio. Türkiye's foreign-dependent import structure causes problems such as the increase in foreign trade deficits and weakening of international competitiveness, thus creating an obstacle to sustainable growth and development. Accordingly, new industrial and technology policies are needed in Türkiye, in which R&D investments are prioritized and the production and export of high value-added products and high-tech products are prioritized.
