Summary/Abstract: The paper draws attention to an important professional moment in the life of the Újvidéki Színház (Novi Sad Theatre) and the szabadkai Népszínház Magyar Társulata (Hungarian Company of the National Theatre in Subotica). The presentation of the rock opera Starmakers, which premiered in 1998, founded the tradition of musi- cal plays in the Novi Sad Theatre. It was directed by Viktor Nagy, a recurring and image-shaping director, who was present in the life of the company for several years. With Starmakers, the mastering of singing and dancing skills, – which the actors did mainly while training part-time in Budapest, – became imperative in the training of acting students in Vojvodina. Since this performance, it has become a practice to use student actors as dance crew in musical shows as their first perfor- mance in the theatre.
