Summary/Abstract: Immunity is a legal institution regulated not only in the national systems of sovereign states, but also in European Union law. This fact is completely understandable given the exceptional importance of immunity as the main guarantee for ensuring the independence of one of the highest institutions in the European Union and its members, namely the European Parliament and its members. The effective functioning of European institutions is an absolutely necessary prerequisite for achieving the main values of the European Union, among which are freedom and democracy, rule of law, and protection of human rights. That is why, for decades, the European legislator has been making efforts to adopt legal institutes, mechanisms, and instruments of various types and scope, such as immunity through which to ensure the work of European institutions in the best way.
