Summary/Abstract: It is, undoubtedly, an error today that the study of English masterpieces and critical estimates of aesthetic qualities of English literature are performed in schools and universities before acquainting students with classic myths. When they are cut off from the intellectual and imaginative sources of the works of the classics, many domains, including literature, art, and even artistic and literary appreciation, run shallow and dry. Our study advocates the necessity of reviving the study of mythology as part of the literature class nowadays, and discusses the relevance of traditional myths and fables for developing the skills needed by students in order to make sense of the literary works that they read.
