Summary/Abstract: Things play a crucial role in Johansen’s short prose. However, they do not have an independent life as has been the case in Kafka’s prose, instead they are to be understood as memorial objects linked to their users. The aim of the following paper is to discuss this relationship more in detail, by considering the sceptical attitude of the narrator toward language as a medium of communication.
