Summary/Abstract: In this study I intend to make a brief overview of the concept of habitus, developed by Pierre Bourdieu, in the context of the migratory process. Habitus is one of the main terms in the conceptual universe of the French sociologist and represents a set of instructions that cause agents to act and react in certain ways. In the context of the migration process, immigrants on the labour market include a place-specific habitus (Casey, 2001) and this habitus may not be in line with the rules imposed by the labour market in the country of destination. Not knowing the rules of the respective labour market, immigrants can fail to explore the labour market or can communicate badly with employers because they are not culturally prepared for a job. As a result, compared to national workers who know and follow the rules, immigrants cannot be competitive.
