Summary/Abstract: Public libraries are nowadays evolving from spaces for knowledge preservation to spaces for social interactions, active citizenship, and continuous learning. This article looks into the concepts of design thinking and community-centered design as drivers for social innovation in public libraries. Through the means of a qualitative research conducted at a Danish public library, we illustrate both the social impacts of the usage of design thinking and community-centered design in public libraries, and the measures that should be adopted by public libraries in order to facilitate processes of social innovation and cultural development for local communities.
