THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IN PROFESSIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT: WHAT REPRESENTATIONS OF THE ALGERIAN ECONOMIC CONTEXT?

Summary/Abstract: In this article, we propose to develop a reflection on the impact of the mastery of foreign languages on the development of professional careers by analysing the representations of socioeconomic actors in the Algerian context. Based on-field surveys carried out in two large Algerian companies, both public and private, namely CASENOS and SNLB, we will attempt to analyse the linguistic practices in these companies and the role of these languages in the labour market. We will use concepts developed in sociolinguistics through the analysis of epi-linguistic discourse as language manifestations in terms of representations, attitudes and relationships to languages.
