Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the codification of some aspects of the pronunciation norms of standard Bulgarian in the first official codification of the Bulgarian language, as well as in spelling dictionaries and handbooks published in the early 20th century. The analysis is centred on the rules governing the pronunciation of the Old Bulgarian yat vowel, vowel reduction and the pronunciation of the participles and the verb endings for the 1st person singular and the 3rd person plural. The author offers conclusions on the state of the codification of pronunciation norms at the beginning of the 20th century.
