The influence of Legnica Special Economic Zone on the economic development of the Legnica subregion

Summary/Abstract: Special economic zones are relatively new country’s regional policy tool. For years there has been a discussion between its followers and opponents. The article is a trial of an assessment of the Legnica Special Economic Zone influence on the Legnica subregion development 2001–2009. In the analysis there were taken two variables: the employment and the investment level. The comparative analysis of the taken variables in comparison to their equivalents in the whole subregion allows to state that the zone influence on the economic development of the subregion is minor. There were also taken into consideration data about the workplaces made at three largest investors in the zone where the real level of employment was definitely higher than the declared.
