Summary/Abstract: Currently, the history of medicine has become one of the most promising scientific directions. Its interdisciplinary nature makes it possible, in particular, to take a fresh look at the legitimization of domination relations and the formation of a spectrum of identities of professional medical communities. The presented article continues research in this direction. It aims to show the formation of dentistry in Germany as an independent profession in inseparable connection with the political development of the country in the late XIX - early XX century. The methodological basis of the research is historicism, consistency and objectivity. As a result of the research, the author came to the following conclusions. Before becoming a profession and acquiring academic status, dentistry developed at the level of private practices, which not only recorded the growing demand for special medical services, but also consistently formed an idea of the social significance of those who were engaged in it. But as soon as the process of professionalization started, dentistry began to need political support that would legitimize and formalize its new status. Dentistry in Germany turned to modern political trends, which in the late XIX - early XX century were inextricably linked with nationalism, as well as those conservative-monarchical elites who had power in the Reich. Dentists in Germany sought to influence political decision-making in the interests of the profession both through collective self-organization and through their own publishing bodies, and through the manifestation of private initiatives corresponding to individual political preferences and positions. At the same time, some dentists were carried away by nationalist and anti-Semitic ideas, which led them to the Pan-German League, which professed an extreme right-wing ideology
