Summary/Abstract: The article presents the various types of relationships that occur between the inquiries of the Law and Literature Movement and history and historiography. Illustrated with examples, it proposes possibilities for both the application of historical research to law and literature, as well as ideas about what law and literature can offer historians. To this purpose, realistic and contemporary literature and historical fiction are treated separately. Finally, the article argues that familiarity with legal history in some cases is not necessary to analyze legal themes in literary works from past époques.
