Summary/Abstract: The book provides a discussion on the central topic of sociology, i.e. the nature and development of modern society. Its author describes the extremely contradictory process that modernity has undergone over the last few centuries. After establishing itself at a somewhat declarative level, it faced a large-scale crisis as a consequence of the incompleteness of its project. This crisis was solved by establishing organisational structures that served to socially stabilise society, but did so at the cost of certain regulations and restrictions. The call for the abolition of these regulations is at the root of the second crisis of modernity, which humanity is currently experiencing. It is not yet possible to determine with certainty whether this crisis will give birth to a society of greater freedom and greater progress, or whether chaos will prevail, which would, conversely, enhance the risks of regression.
