Summary/Abstract: Accessible and easy-to-understand information, support and education in the area of sex education can fundamentally contribute to the reduction of vulnerability often experienced by people with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the presented research was to determine what kind of information and support in the area of sexuality young people with intellectual disabilities receive. Twelve adult participants with intellectual disabilities perceived sex education as useful. However, their knowledge in this area was limited, as they did not receive sex education in the family, and some participants did not have sex education at school. When sex education was provided, it was reduced to biological topics and aimed at preventing abuse and pregnancy. Thus, the participants were insufficiently prepared for romantic relationships, family planning and parenthood. The participants also reported positive experiences with support provided by sexual confidants within social services.
